A long swim on the shortest day of the year—though of course the day is as long as it ever is, just ill-lit. Sky an odd muddy brown. Water cold & excellent.
I wonder if I will start writing here. In 2008/2009 I blogged a little bit & enjoyed it. Austin is about to turn cold again. Today the Limey Ball-&-Chain & I went to Malvern Books for the last time, a wonderful independent bookstore whose visionary owner, Joe Bratcher, died earlier this year. Malvern’s last day is December 31st. I miss it already.
Clearly if I do blog, I will have to get more interesting.
Please carry on. Your writing is always crackling. "the day is as long as it ever is, just ill-lit." Ha.
Writing in short form is hard for a long-form writer like me. I don't want my blogging to be synonymous with spewing or just another way of tweeting in an effort to avoid You-know-who. Good luck with your Substack posts! I'll read them with interest.
