In April, Austin still has a bit of chill at the bottom of her pocketbook: I like to rummage around for it. Just before 6AM it was dark, the pool with a bit of mist around its shoulders. I swam four laps: first in the dark, then a pinkening sky, then full blush, then blinding daylight. I realize I have always thought I was swimming northward then southward, but as the sun explains & a map confirms, the pool actually runs west-east.
At the end of my swim, a man was lying on the rocks at the shallow end with a camera, photographing a heron who obligingly struck poses like the leggy super model it is.
I think you’d be impressed if I told you how long I swam in minutes and how long I swam in miles but together they reveal me as the ponderous water mammal I am.
I swam a mile today.
Brava!
Thanks to this newsletter I swam at Barton Springs when I was in town for TLA last week and it was an incandescent & transporting experience!
