When I swam today, in a heated pool in northern CA, we were complaining quietly that it was a bit cold. One of four heaters was broken. But the pool was still in the mid- to high 70's. So not really that cold. But your water, bbrrrrrr. thx for sharing this and the photo.
Thank you for writing and for the photos. I would never swim in chilly weather, but I love knowing that you do. Congratulations on completing a writing project!
Were I hardy enough to be (maybe) breast-stroking out there in the dark with you, somehow not bumping into each other, but going along, I'd tell you it's been oddly comforting to feel not-hardy these days too. A shadow gift of tough times. I'm finding, post-surprise-illness, a new tenderness for myself, thin-skinned and shaky as I've become. I'll get back in the water. Meanwhile, what a pleasure to sit out where it's dry, and yet swim, hardy as ever, through your words.
I cannot wait for the new book. That is all.
I'm enjoying my morning rides in the cold, it keeps the pikers away. I'm likely riding when you are swimming.
The area i live in now is sandy and rockless... I miss the crags of the crumbled Appalachians. But I visited one of the Leatherman's caves, an old rock shelter: https://open.substack.com/pub/thomaspluck/p/cape-cod-reubens-at-the-leathermans?r=4izh&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
I loved this, Thomas!
