Even though I didn't know you were there during the years I lived in Austin, I'll miss you on behalf of many people. I highly doubt anyone's mystified as to why you and yours would leave Texas right at this moment, though, even if every life transition is layered beyond what might be obvious on the surface. Wishing all good things to you and your family, and safety from those chompy-ass fish!
In 1990, a potato cod swallowed my hand while I was doling out bits of toast to smaller fish at the Great Barrier Reef. He was the size of a VW bug with lips like Mick Jagger! I immediately tried pulling my hand out, which met with two rows of sharp teeth. I needn't have worried, though, because the cod pffftted my hand back out of its massive lips, since they are not really interested in human flesh.
Kept the how to disappear. Really dithered over the grass skirts and coconut bras from the luau suprise party in 1998. Dumped. Only moving 50 miles west. Steady on.
How old is Maggie? And has she spent any time with other cats? I can ask my neighbor if she might be interested. She has an elderly cat, who might be in the market for a companion.
As I live in the UK, I shall look forward to reading your views on life here. After 59 years living in England, we've recently moved to Wales and we're loving it. Dragged our old girl cat of 16 years along with us and she's settling well. I hope you find someone to take your cat which enables her to keep living her best life. Happy travels.
I read The Hero of this Book before my trip to London. Natalie was amazing and I wish I'd met her. My mom died last year in a similar long way and you helped by sharing the story of early grief. Thank you.
Not sure if I'll ride the eye or visit the Tate Britain but I'm thinking of visiting Stonehenge at dawn. Best of luck with your move. We're thinning possessions for the same reason.
I swam in barton springs on a visit from australia in 2015. we have some pretty nice waterholes here but BS has stayed alive in my mind - whatta place! maybe in england you can swim at london docks. likely ancient fish there! love yr books esp How to completely disappear.
Safe and easy travels (tho' a move is hardly ever *easy*). I look forward to any additional Barton Spring reports we might get before you close the door on this time in Austin. It's been a delight to experience it - mad geese, carnivorous fish, venal head-down swimmers proceeding on the diagonal - through you.
I grew up in Austin but moved away in the 70’s. I still pine for Barton Springs and have felt fortunate to be able to revisit vicariously through your early morning swims. Safe travels for you and yours!
Dang it! I wish we could take that sweet girl. We lost our best girl ever on Valentine's Day and aren't over it yet. But we know we are not yet ready for another cat. I sure hope she finds the very best home.
My husband was bitten by a fish in a small New Jersey lake over 30 years ago, while we were dating. He was standing still, near the floating dock, and we have always surmised it was due to his stillness. It left a tiny mark at the time, as proof that it actually happened. Wishing you well in the UK.
Even from Montana, I miss you in advance as though I were back in Austin and used to seeing you and the ball-&-chain more often than I did when there. Love and hugs to you and yourn!

Can’t wait to find out what your next swim spot will be. I know the move will be far from easy, but I’m so happy for you. (And a bit jealous.)
Happy Trails to you. We will be here, wishing you well, hoping to hear from you.

Best of luck in your peregrinations, and in finding a home for the THAT GIRL book.
