Noon swimming again in the George Ward pool in Saskatoon, an old outdoor community pool: turquoise rectangle in a grey ground, chain link fence, empty prairie sky blazing overhead. Concession stand closed since Covid, so it’s quiet and only smells of chlorine. Mysteriously perfect.
I love swimming in all types of waters. Northern California swims always shock the system, in a good way. But I’ll take a Pina colada afterwards… and Hawaii never disappoints either!
I swam for the first time in a long while, invited by my daughter to do a few laps across Lawson's Quarry on Vinalhaven. Not tropical. Honored to be invited.
I don't swim, but I miss my Florida beaches--one had a long walk out to the ocean, as pictured there. Thanks for reminding me. I'm glad you can redeem that sad time.

We are losing so many of our small town outdoor pools in Ontario. Too expensive to repair, way too expensive to rebuild. It's heartbreaking.
So with you on this. No pina coladas here, either. Give me sky forever and lots of bracing water!
What, no piña colada?!
It's always so lovely to visit a sympathetic landscape!
("An Exact Replica" was such a beautiful and important book. I'm still recommending it, all these years later.)
